Two of the main furnishings in Japanese culture are the Mizuya and Tansu.

Mizuya - A Japanese storage cabinet/cupboard for kitchens and or futon storage.
Tansu - A Japanese storage cabinet. Each tansu has a unique name depending upon what is being stored in it.
Isho-dansu = This type of tansu is typically a chest on chest (stacked) for clothing storage.
Kaidan-dansu = This is typically seen as a step tansu, used as stairs and storage.
Katana-dansu = This type of tansu will have wide drawers for sword storage.
Choba-dansu = This type of tansu is typically seen as one container (chest) for storage.
